Abstract
Summary: This study investigated dental extractions and associated sociodemographic factors among 322 Syrian child refugees treated in a dental clinic in the Zaatari camp, Jordan, from September to December 2019. A total of 397 teeth were extracted, primarily lower teeth, with lower left primary molars being most commonly affected. Dental caries and pulpal diseases were the main reasons for extraction, with no gender-based differences. Higher parental education correlated with fewer extractions, and increased toothbrushing frequency was linked to a decrease in extractions due to caries. These findings underscore the impact of the Syrian conflict on refugee oral health, emphasizing the importance of oral hygiene practices and education in reducing tooth extractions among refugee populations.
