Abstract
Summary: This study assessed the knowledge and practice of doctor-patient communication among Jordanian dentists using a survey based on the Calgary Cambridge Observation Guides. Results from 305 dentists showed a moderate level of communication skills knowledge, with female dentists and those in the private sector scoring higher. Older and more experienced dentists generally exhibited better communication skills. Despite the belief in the importance of training courses for communication skills, nearly half of the participants had never attended such courses. Limited time, course availability, cost, and perceived lack of importance were identified as obstacles to pursuing communication skills training. The findings suggest a need for improved communication training among Jordanian dentists, considering their crucial role in oral health and prevention.
