Abstract
The rising popularity of Facebook in Jordan has made it a place not only used for connecting with others but also a place for consuming news. During the curfew that the Jordanian government had implemented due to COVID-19. A wave of “fake news” on Facebook had circulated, causing some dangers which lead the government‟s official spokesman to address the nation about the threats of this phenomenon which has risen at this critical time in the country. “Fake news” which is commonly known as the spread of false, misleading or inaccurate news information is frequently becoming a common expression in Jordan, especially at this critical time in the history of the country. Therefore, this paper highlights the increasing dangers of “fake news” on society, especially at the time of a significant event like COVID-19. The paper offers a theoretical framework that distinguishes between the concepts of news, “fake news” and news credibility.
