Abstract
Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the ability of medical and dental students to recognize oral manifestations of systemic diseases. Of the 400 senior students approached, 283 participated. Dental students demonstrated significantly higher knowledge scores on both normal oral structures and oral manifestations of systemic diseases compared to medical students. Only 24.3% of medical students felt adequately trained to distinguish between normal and diseased oral conditions, highlighting a need for improved education in oral health assessment. The majority of medical students expressed the importance of additional formal training in oral examination and disease diagnosis. The study suggests that curricular revisions and enhanced clinical training are essential to equip medical students with the necessary skills to identify oral signs of systemic diseases effectively.
